Wow! This school year has been busy! Being a new mom and balancing all my kinder kids and my sweet baby boy has been challenging, but wonderful.
One of my favorite times of the school year is the Open House season when the room is all set up, clean from all the janitors hard work in the summer, and ready to greet a new group of kinder kids!
Our school has a theme- "Expectation: Graduation" to promote high school graduation. Each year I decorate my classroom door with the kindergarten class' graduation year and with the logos of some colleges in our general area of the country.
One of the new motivational tools I started last year was our "Reading Rocket". One of our end of the year goals is for students to know 100 sight words (the Fry words- Click here to see the Fry First 100 List )
I will be posting how we use the Reading Rocket and learn sight words soon.
Another important area of the kindergarten classroom is the calendar area. Every morning after morning work and morning message, we have calendar time. We cover MANY, MANY, MANY math standards during our 10 minute calendar time. It is incredible to see how much the students learn during this time throughout the year.
I will share more about morning work, morning message, and calendar in posts soon!
Here is my classroom word wall. Sorry for the glare! I found this cute alphabet with owls on Pinterest. I LOVE Pinterest (and I love owls)!
I also have an ActivBoard at the front of my classroom and a small counter with cabinets at the back by our sink. In one corner I have 3 student computers and in the back corner I have my teacher desks and 2 bookshelves with some of my personal books and supplies.
